The "Big 3" providers

In the Netherlands, three companies own the networks. Most other "budget" brands actually run on their lines. Always use the postcode check on a provider's site to see your real available speeds.

Most providers offer a "welcome discount" for the first 6–9 months. This can save you over €250 a year if you switch regularly.

The secret to the lowest bills

If you get your home internet and your mobile SIM from the same company (e.g. KPN internet + KPN mobile), they'll often give you:

• €5 to €7.50 off your monthly bill
• Double mobile data
• Free extra TV channels (like ESPN or HBO)

The switching service (Overstapservice)

Worried about being without internet? Most Dutch providers offer a free Overstapservice. They cancel your old contract for you and ensure your new one starts the same day — seamless, and it prevents double billing.

Understanding your connection

Before you sign, you need to know which "pipe" comes into your home. Your options depend entirely on your postcode.

• Fibre (Glasvezel): the fastest option (up to 1,000+ Mbps). Perfect for families and gamers, but not available in every street yet.
• Cable (Kabel): very fast (up to 1,000 Mbps) and available almost everywhere. In the NL this is provided exclusively by Ziggo.
• DSL: internet via the old telephone line. The most widely available and often cheapest, but speeds are much slower.
